If you want to switch to the owner-operator life, the first thing you need to do is purchase a semi-truck that you can use and take out on the road. When you look for a used semi-truck, make sure that you look for features that will make your new ride comfortable on the road, such as:
#1 Comfortable Bed
First, check out the area where the bed is in the sleeper trailer. Most beds run around the rear of the sleeping compartment in order to give you a little bit of living space. The trailer should come with a bed. Hopefully, it will come with a comfortable mattress. Be sure to lay down on the mattress and test it out.

#2 Food Space

Above the mini-fridge, there should be some storage shelves. These storage shelves should allow you a place to keep your dry goods. A great semi-truck should also come with a microwave or toaster over location as well so you can cook your food.
A real ice semi-truck will also come with a small sink. Having a source of water will allow you to better prepare your food. It will also help you stay clean and sanitary as well.
#3 Storage
Finally, make sure that your next semi-truck sleeper also has ample storage space. The bed should be elevated high enough so you can put storage bins under your bed. This will provide you with a space to store your clothes and personal belongings. Alternatively, if the bed is lowered, there should be a storage shelf above the bed.
Some cabs also have storage in the floor. You can lift up a compartment on the floorboard to access additional storage space. Since your sleeper cab is so elevated and tall, there should be lots of space for storage under your sleeper area.
When looking for your own semi-truck, remember that this is going to be your home for much of the year. Make sure that the living space is comfortable and offers you the space you need to eat, sleep and store your personal belongings.
